HELLO!
Artist Bio
Minnesota based mosaic artist, Sara Ruhnow, has been passionate about the arts and natural world since her formative years growing up in the Black Hills, SD. She has been creating mosaics with (and on) recycled/reused/found objects for over 15 years after her partner introduced her to the medium and she fell in love. She is inspired by tiny pieces coming together to make anything possible.
Her art has progressed over the years as she became a foster parent and mother to 4 adopted kiddos. The social aspect of building a family and seeing the impact of neglect/abuse within the family unit has influenced her work how she views the world with an artists eye.
She has a bachelors degree in Business and the Creative Arts from Metropolitan State University where she studied music, creative writing, gallery work, and visual arts. She uses all of that knowledge to hone in on her skills as a mosaicist. She has won prizes being part of juried shows in Minnesota and Wisconsin and loves sharing her process @blacksheepmosaics on instagram.
